Because they are afraid of losing us, our loved ones often impose their own desires on us. To them, our safety and happiness would be assured if all that was required was that we follow their instructions. Rather than accepting that we are in pain because of their grasp on us, they often use manipulation as a means of domination. When I first started pursuing my dreams, there were a lot of people who tried to stop me. In spite of the fact that these people cared about me, I was frequently subjected to emotional abuse as a means of controlling or containing my behavior. For years, other people's expectations weighed down on me. After a while, I came to recognize that no one but myself knew what was best for me. I began to see that some of my greatest regrets stemmed from decisions I made in an effort to appease others. Armed with this knowledge, I took control of my own destiny and began making decisions that were far more bold than ever before. I would be lying if I said people didn't get upset at first, but the rest of my life was finally starting to fall into place. I knew that I was on the right road, and a calm was emerging from the midst of the previously raging chaos. There's so much more to this story that I would love to share with you.
