Feeling crushed by life? Read this.

If we don’t have the right mindset, we can be hurt and disillusioned by life. But when you learn to combine the practice of regulating expectations with the ability to adopt an empowering perspective, it has the potential to completely rebuild your outlook. Suddenly, it feels like life is working for you, rather than against you. The beauty in the world becomes more apparent, and small miracles can be found everywhere; a blooming flower, a child’s laughter, a kind gesture between strangers.

When you learn to combine the two strategies, it’s a lot like having a superpower, the ability to turn trash into transformation. Its effectiveness isn’t even limited to minor complications! It’s been my experience that if I put in the effort, I can find a positive outlook for practically every issue thrown my way.



I still let circumstances get the better of me from time to time, but I've learned to be patient with myself. It's important for me to remember that I was indoctrinated with negative programming from a very early age and that retraining the brain takes diligence.


Feeling thrown off course?

1. Ask yourself:

• What were your expectations?

Don’t judge your motivations; you're just gathering information

• What is the reality?

• How does this discrepancy make you feel?

• How do you WANT to feel?

2. Choose an empowering perspective

• Be very intentional

• Keeping the answers to the above questions in mind, choose a new focus.


For example, my own life has included more than its fair share of trauma, but it’s also provided me with the ability to help others. My prior thinking portrayed me as a victim, but with a renewed mind, I now recognize that it was my suffering that paved the way for my destiny. Despite the fact that I would never want to go back, I’m extremely grateful for the people I can help as a result.
